1I’ve had two – both were defective
By G. Meloy
I purchased one of these from woot a couple months ago. I without delay noticed that the red LEDs stayed on very dimly when the light was supposed to be off – which means that they were drawing current and draining the batteries.

I returned it to Energizer hoping to get a warranty repair/replacement and rather they just mailed me a check for the alternate value [...].

I actually liked the headlamp when it worked (two nice bright white settings, two red LEDs, one green LED, spot or flood mode with the flip-up lens etc) – so I purchased another one (from [...] through Amazon).

Well, the new one showed up last week and seemed to work great! All of the LEDs were off when the light was off, so I assumed I’d gotten a “good” one – until the next morning when my batteries were completely dead. I put in new batteries and measured the current draw with an ammeter (I design electronics for a living so this is no big deal to me) – this thing draws 38 milliamps when OFF. At that rate, a new set of batteries will be totally dead in 3 days without the light ever having been turned on.

Maybe a great deal of of them work and I just got two duds in a row, but without doubt or question their quality control is dreadful and I won’t be buying another. I’m genuinely disappointed by this, because other than as supposed or expected this is a actually cool product.

5First time user in Peru of Energizer Hardcase Headlamp
By G. Hill
Due to the high incidence of earthquakes in Peru and the Chilean event, I wanted a lot of new LED’s including a headlamp for my family and friends. A local market search revealed very low stocking of led’s here and a low “preventive mindset” in the general population. After hours of a stringent internet search I saw too numerous very high priced models for the intermediate user, and decisive to go with a well known brand that is much cheaper. Of course seeing the “hard-use” video helped, as did reading a review of another brand model whose cord link to the rear mounted battery case was poorly positioned under the front light and fouled the best use of the light. Quality of this model is very high, and seems strong sufficient for rough use…we will see. I am very pleased with some trial uses for head fit, light options, balance, and light power. I even gave the second one purchased to my brother-in-law who was exceedingly pleased with it as he had a less complicated headlamp model. I will buy more on my next trip to the States for other family.

4Bright. Not full-featured, but seemingly rugged & a good basic headlamp
By RoyGBiv
This headlight kicks butt. I’ve got a Garrity 8 LED headlight too (1 Watt main light), and this one throws alot more light. Dunno incisively how much more, but I’d say it’s at least twice as much oomph.

The regular beam is tightly focused, and may throw utile light very far. The little flip-up diffuser does noticeably reflect a glint of light into your face when stowed, so a little nail polish on the tip helps to eliminate the glare. The diffuser does a nice occupation diffusing the light, though, making a very utile wide lighting pattern, which I genuinely find utile in numerous situations. Users ought to be careful while controlling the diffuser though, bcs it would be effortlessly snapped off if you tried to man-handle it into position w/o making sure it’s totally extended.

The elasticized fabric is firm, and lightly applied with 2 thin rubberized strips to aid it stay on your head for the duration of vigorous use. You do not have to tighten it up too much to keep it on your head. The top strap may be unlatched, to go around helmets. It does not totally come off, though, so tuck it in the back. Well balanced w/ the batteries in the back & the light in the front.

There are no flashing / strobe modes (e.g. “be-seen” modes for bicycle commuting). And there are no rear-facing LEDs. The red LED is utile for unobtrusive lighting.

No comment yet in regards to the durability of build yet. Most headlamps that mount the battery pack on the back for remainder fail where the wire comes out of the battery pack or goes into the lamp. There’s no telling if the Energizer harness is any more or less rugged than others, but so far, it looks adequately designed. The cable is moderately protected from accidental snagging, as it is routed through a sheath, but it could unquestionably gain from more snag protection.
