Gerber fixed blade gut hook knife
By Rex D. Ellis
I applied this knife to field dress my primary ever huge game animal, a cow elk. The knife was very sharp, seemed to hold an edge well, and performed flawlessly. Definately worth the money.

this could have been a fine tool
By RTfact
I was sorry to see the tang extending outside the handle, and what appears to be an ergonomic handle bearing squared-off edges. This is the form-over-function approach which genuinely relegates the once-proud Gerber brand to Ekco or Ginsu status. It’s now all in regards to style, not ergonomics, steel or tactile appeal. It’s just not hand-friendly.
This could have been a much more delighting tool at nearly no further and added cost, by merely rounding the molded scales and making them the same dimension as the tang. Kai (Kershaw) and Spyderco seem to get it. Fiskars, which purchased the Gerber name years ago, doesn’t. I suggest that you consider the Kershaw, Mora or Ontario knives for dandier using satisfaction.

Quality knife at a low price! Seriously!
By Ed
GREAT knife! Came sharpened and ready to roll. I employed this to skin a boar, and the guthook worked the skin like a zipper. Plus the tip made cutting the fat behind the pelt as easy as any rounded skinning knife. Do keep a sharpener handy though, because the boar pelt may and does dull when it comes to any knife applied on it. This remained largely sharp, better than others, but it does need a touch up before I use it again. If you’re a hunter and want a good quality knife that doesn’t need any prep before going into the field and won’t cost you more than a box of decent ammo, get this.
