4The best pool cover pump, but not perfect.
By Larry in Lafayette
I’ve had three Rule 1800 pool cover pumps in the last five years or so. Before that, I’ve had some others, but none compare. At least when it works.

The Good: Powerful, compact, and automatic. The strainer is well designed to keep working even when leaves fall on the cover. Pumps into a regular garden hose. This is a “set and forget” pool cover pump.

The Bad: The nylon fitting for the hose cracked. I put a hose clamp around it, which worked. One of the prongs keeping the strainer on broke, but I applied cable ties to hold it. Which worked.

The Ugly: I just purchased my third pump in five years. The initial one lasted for two, and the second for three. When I took the last one apart, it appeared that the motor brushes were all ground down. By the time I had it that far apart, there was no putting it back together.

Conclusion: I’ve looked and looked, and I don’t believe there is a better pool cover pump. Still, I wish the plastic pieces were a little sturdier, and I surely wish that the pump motor lasted longer. Still, I commend it.

5Pool cover pump works
By J. Paulson
This pump is excellent, removes water quickly and the particular wide base allows it to sit on the cover without tipping. It may double as a hot tub pump, with a dissimilar base, and may even be thrown into the swimming pool to reduce it is level.

2Works outstanding for one year – updated
By H. Baker
1st year, worked great.
2nd year, I had to keep turning power off and on to reset.
3rd year, stopped working.

Updated – Returned to manufacturer. They substituted with a new unit in one week.
