Academically Interesting

This book was interesting in terms of riddle anthropology, and how respective cultures use riddles. So if you are doing exploration in regards to riddles this has numerous good information. However if you are looking for fun riddles to solve this is not the book. Many of the riddles inside are translated from other languages and cultures and make no sense in English.

Embraces the Spiritual Enigma Beneath Riddles

Riddles are enigmas that show us directly the irrational vigor of life under it is rational veneer. Like Zen koans, riddles attack the established workings of the mind to open the mind beyond reason to the delight of the mystery before us.

Phil Cousineau’s `A World Treasury of Riddles’ is an accessible book regarding “enigmas, conundrums, puzzle poems, bafflers, charades, logogriphs, teasers, verbal jigsaws, peculiar words, and quiz questions.” His style will delight young readers and those who take pleasure in a poetic flare for language. That said, the prose is also tight and to the point, it is pith arrangement of vibrant language will surprise the more scholarly reader with it is ease in tackling primary questions within the cultural dialogue. From such a seemingly not relevant topic Cousineau tickles our creativeness and turns our consciousness toward unfathomed vistas. The simple or absurd twist of tongue again and again reveals the profound, timeless, and eternal truths versus which the ego breaks and the spiritual seeker finds solace.

The book itself is divided into five riddling sections: The Introductory, The Pleasury, The Guessery, The Sourcery, and The Unforgettery. Each has it is own playfulness.

A World Treasury of Riddles is lyrical, poetic, and imaginative. An sheer wonder to read.
