4First Miele Vacuum
By Molly M.
First of all let me state that this is my introductory Miele vacuum. I’ve not laid hands on a Sebo, Riccar, or Miele (except briefly in a store) before receiving the Miele Delphi. In the past I purchased what was cheap and hoped for the best. Lately I’ve changed that doctrine and exploration everything diligently. Consider in my review that I don’t have experience with premium vacuums prior to this one (and even though it’s at the bottom end of the price range I think $500 is premium for a vacuum cleaner).

5Terrific lower-priced additions to the Miele canister vacuum line
By hyperbolium
Miele is a family-owned German manufacturer of home appliances. The company’s system of belief of neverending betterment (“Immer Besser”) has made them a bestloved allround the world. Their merchandise don’t have bargain prices, but provide value in high quality design and fabricating that results in superior performance and durability. Miele was founded in 1899 and begun constructing vacuum cleaners in 1927; their vacuums have become favorites of pros worldwide, including a great deal of top-end hotel staffs.

The Miele S2 line of canister vacuums is new for 2009, supplying the quality and a good deal of of Miele’s ordinary features at a lower price. There are four S2 models, all sharing the same 1200-watt base vacuum. The canister has six power settings and a ordinary air filter that catches 94% of corpuscles down to 0.3 microns. The Olympus model is the lowest priced of the S2 line, and features a floor/carpet combo head (SBD350-3), non-electric hose and a telescoping wand. The Capri model substitutes the air-powered Turbobrush (STB205-3) for the floor/carpet combo head, and adds the Parquet Floor Brush (SBB-3). The Delphi model substitutes a power head (SEB217-3), electric hose (SES116) and electric telescoping wand (SET220) for the non-powered parts of the Olympus. The Titan model retains the power parts of the Delphi and adds the parquet floor brush (SBB-3) and active HEPA filter.

Note that all S2 models may support the power hose and brush, but only the Delphi and Titan include it as part of the package. Similarly, all S2 models aid the active HEPA filter, but only the Titan includes it in it is package. If you don’t presently need a power head you may buy the Olympus or Capri and add the power elements later; you’ll pay more in the end, but you won’t have to buy power elements now that you may not need for a few years. The non-electric combo head works well on smooth flooring, is usable on short-pile carpet, and is difficult to use on deeper-pile carpet.

Like all Miele vacuum cleaners, the S2 is well designed and fabricated in Germany. The vacuum has a range of 29.5 feet from the end of the self-retracting power cord to the tip of the brush. The unit is light (under 10 lbs), nicely balanced and moves without apparent effort in any direction on it is casters. The top-exhaust design allows you to vacuum effortlessly with the canister standing up, such as on steps. The motor is breathtakingly quiet, peculiarly at the lower power levels. The six power levels concede you to switch from floors and carpets to shelves and tabletops without without advance planning grabbing objects or papers rather of dirt or dust.

The S2 cleans very well and is a pleasure to use. The base has notches in which the hose may be parked, one for when the base is on it is wheels, one for when the base is standing. This is a great touch, utile for temporarily standing the hose while you move a piece of furniture, and helpful for storing the vacuum in a closet without breaking down the hose and wand. Perhaps the only weakness of the S2 is the “varioclip” for tool storage, which rides somewhat uncomfortably on the hose rather than more naturally on the base. Changing the filter and bag are each a snap, and an indicator tells you when the bag is full.

Finally, what compromises does the S2 line make from the more costly S4 and S5 lines? The most evident changes are to external components: a few parts, such as the bumper strip that surrounds the canister, are made from hard plastic rather than softer rubber. The operating radius is a few feet shorter (due to a shorter power cord), and the accessory brushes use some lower-cost materials (nylon versus natural bristle brush, plastic rather of metal). Inside, the S2 canister uses Miele’s “CleanAir System” construction, while the S4 and S5 canister use it is “Sealed System.” Miele doesn’t offer a elaborated comparison of the two, but one might assume the latter system provides an extra measure of dust capture that may be more suitable for those with allergic sensitivities.

The changes made to lower the price of the S2 line will make little divergences in daily use, but shouldn’t compromise the vacuum’s core capacity to clean. Those who are exceptionally sensible to dust ought to consider the HEPA-equipped Titan model, or stepping up to the S4 or S5; those with less stringent needs will find the S2 a terrific entry point to the Miele line of high quality vacuums. If budget is no issue, look at the S5 line, but if value-per-dollar is a major consideration, the S2 line will fetch you Miele’s engineering science and developing prowess at a more lowpriced price. 5Miele Delphi S2120 verses Dyson DC17 Absolute Animal
By C. Post
I will have to get started by saying that this is my introductory Miele vacuum. After hours or exploration online (including buyer reports, internet reviews, etc.) I narrowed down my selection to a Dyson DC17 Absolute Animal or the Miele Delphi S2120. Macy’s division store had the Dyson DC17 on sale with an further and added 10% off, so I decisive to undertake it out. After using the Dyson for the primary time, I found that it pulled out fibers from my carpet (5-years old) after a heap of slow passes and too huge to get under furniture. I must add that I do not have pets or children, so my carpet is what a lot of would consider easy to vacuum. Also, I emptied the container a good deal of times to ascertain that it did not clog. The second try (same day) I encountered that not only was it continuing to pull out my carpet, but it begun to lose suction. I went online again (YouTube) and found that I am not the only person who had complaints after the introductory couple of uses. YouTube had a good video from a repair shop titled, ‘Dyson DC17 Repair & Maintenance Warnings’ which helped to explain repair and cleaning. I promptly returned vacuum to Macy’s and went to Bed Bath and Beyond (not all stores carry Miele, but they may order it online and waive shipping) to get the Miele. I would commend that if you buy a vacuum; get it from a local retailer for hassle free returns and exchanges.

Why Miele Delphi S2120:

Vacuum that uses bags (after seeing videos of bagless vacuums with caked on dust in cyclone chamber which needs to be disassembled to clean)

I found that galore vacuums (including Dyson DC17) had a heap of dust molecules which irritated by allergies.

Reputation and reviews from buyers who are return customers.

Wanted a vacuum that could get underneath furniture (couch, bed, etc.)

As the former reviewer wrote, the vacuum is very easy to assemble. I was amazed to learn that the dust bag and filters were already to go (no unpacking needed). It did take numerous getting applied to after using an upright vacuum for so long. At first, it was hard to know if the vacuum was working because it was so quiet and my carpet did not in truth need vacuuming. I found myself checking the level dial to see what worked best on medium pile dense carpet. After using it a couple of times, I have no doubt that the vacuum has splendid suction and does not fabricate dust molecules for those who are sensible to dust. Overall, I have NO REGRETS with purchasing the Miele Delphi S2120.

Additional Items I purchased separately:

Miele Replacement Vacuum Filter SFAH30
