You may alter the world. Here’s how.

In fact, we wrote a book in regards to it (this book, the one in your hands). We’ll harness your green purposes and push you beyond turning off the AC each once in a while. It’s all in here:

  • how to keep the planet healthy
  • facts and info
  • real-life stories
  • suggestions and challenges
  • eco-tips from MySpace users around the globe.

Everybody who submitted a tip got their username in this book, btw.

Each of us has the power to make a difference—open this book, arm yourself with knowledge, and start out now. (Seriously. What are you waiting for?)

From School Library JournalGrade 8 Up—Geared toward teens, this collection of MySpace postings focuses on what readers may do in their every day activities, social lives, and communities to aid the environment. Each chapter breaks down the setting into it is person components. For example, the chapter “Your Home, Your Planet” gives environmental hints for making one’s room, bathroom, kitchen, and yard more eco-friendly. The progressed layout, with green foliage on each page and purple and green font, as well as the slang, will be engaging for young adults. Highlighted boxes, located in most chapters, give facts regarding topics such as recycling, carbon dioxide, substitute fuels, substitute spring break, and television. The recycling box starts with, “Lose virginity: recycle” and holds facts in regards to virgin materials saved by recycling newspapers, aluminum cans, glass containers, and plastic soda bottles. Myths and facts with regards to the environs are explored. This book gives splendid suggestions for helping to help the environment, and is sure to give hope or courage to teen activism.—Teresa Moffett, Fulton High School, Knoxville, TN

From BooklistMySpace founder Tom Anderson says that the online community OurPlanet, which discusses environmental issues, is one of his site’s most active areas. This fact-filled, irreverent title, packed with contributions by OurPlanet members, offers teens practical ideas on how they may improve the Earth’s future through life style choices, education, and activism. Organized around themes such as “Health and Body,” the chapters meet teens where they live: there are tips distinctively for computer gamers, for example, while the “eco-dating” section proposes renting a hybrid rather of a limo for prom. The format—colored text and a few dull drawings—is breathtakingly lackluster in a title affiliated with a cutting-edge community, and grammar hounds (likely adults) may grumble at the in a faithful manner reproduced faults in the transcribed online postings; but the messages are clear: teens are ready to participate in the necessary change. A list of “eco-pledges,” a glossary, and broad resources close this title that’s sure to circulate widely amidst concerned teens. Grades 8-11. –Gillian Engberg

With “Going Green” being the new catchphrase, it’s no surprise there are a bunch of titles centered on teens and the next generation who will inherit this planet.

The pithy slogan that is a outstanding catch to draw teen and adult readers similar is this -

“You may change the planet. Here’s how.”

True to this phrase, the book is a how-to guide for teens to not only save energy, recycle, and be informed buyers of locally made products, but also teaches the readers how to be educators on all things “Green.”

One other interesting aspect of this book is it is writers – teens and subscribers from the social networking site, Myspace. Anyone and everyone who submitted suggestions and tips to the “Our Planet” fellow member page, was cited and cited within the pages of this book! What a outstanding idea to get teens involved in planning for the future care of this planet and environment.

4Useful Information
By Heather A. Reichert
Not the most in-depth guide to helping reduce our footprint, but taking into account it’s written for (and partially by) teens, it’s not bad. Lots of good tips and info.
