Body Theology James B Nelson

Body Theology James B Nelson

James Nelson offers an incarnational way of doing theology. He takes body experiences seriously and views sexuality as central to the mystery of humane experience and to the humane kinship with God.

From Library JournalNelson offers a exhaustively incarnational–and accordingly exhaustively Christian–theology that takes body and sexuality seriously. He addresses body and sexuality as a locus of divine revelation and humane growth that seeks to win a victory over dualism of soul and body, and of spirit and matter. In the process, he rethinks sexual sin and evaluates various male issues such as the significations of embodied life, procreative choices, and AIDS. He concludes with two sermons thanking God for homosexuals (who have helped Nelson address his own homophobia) and exploring where Christ is embodied today. Highly commended for most libraries.

3An academic and reflective book.
By David Houvenagle
This book seems to be very much a sequel to Nelson’s “Embodiment.” It is a theological discussion of homosexuality from the liberal point of view such as that of John Shelby Sprong. His theological discussions are interspersed with personal narrations from his own life where he met Homosexuals, including a gay men with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. I believe that this book has more academic than personal applicability for point and counterpoint discussion.
